The Maasai Mara Game Reserve
The Maasai Mara Game Reserve is located about 280 km southwest of Nairobi and is a 5 hour drive by road or 1 hour by air. It borders the Serengeti National Park to the south. The Mara, as it is popularly known is a “must” for everyone to visit as one is able to see all species of animals and birds in a relatively short distance from the lodge/camp. It has the highest number of the “King of the Jungle” (the Lion) and where all the other Big Four “Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard” are to be found. Witness the great migration of wildebeest, zebra and even antelopes across the plains and also watch them cross the precarious Mara River on their way from and to Serengeti in what is known today as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". Please note that apart from this biannual Serengeti-Mara/Mara-Serengeti crossings, wildebeests do cross the Mara River several times on the Kenya side. They will keep on crossing into either Transmara side or the Narok West side until October when they finally cross the river on their way back to Serengeti. This affords a visitor many chances of witnessing the crossovers
